Peterson Signature Guitars is the culmination of a 30 year quest to combine the most sought after features of a fine player's instrument with historic and meticulous hand craftsmanship.
In 1984, I wanted to purchase a 24 3/4" scale electric guitar with a tremolo bridge and a "double cut" body design. After an extended search, I could not find one instrument that met the standards and the design features that I wanted and needed as a player, so I designed and built the first Peterson guitar in 1985. My first prototype, the "BP1" became my main guitar for the next 27 years.
Over the years, I had many requests to build similar guitars for other players who wanted the same design features, but my attention was on playing and recording during these years, not on making more instruments. Finally, in 2011, after spending the past two years studying violin making and restoration, my son Brandon and I decided to take my original BP1 design to a whole new level.
For nearly six months, Brandon and I worked on designing the four new guitars that became the GT, GH, FT, and FH models that you now see on this site. Every detail, feature, obsession and minutia that a serious player could imagine was manipulated, refined, adapted, and documented. With the unique perspective of being a violinist, guitarist, and a professional craftsman, I understand the relationship between a musician and their favorite instrument, and the importance of attention to every structural detail. The response that we received from the electronic plans that Brandon and I produced was unexpectedly positive, and we began building the instruments 97 days prior to our commitment to exhibit them at the "Summer NAMM, 2012" show in Nashville. With a lot of help from our family, and 103 days without a day off, we finished the instruments just in time and headed for Tennessee. Within the first few hours of the show, pro players were discovering what we already knew from our initial "plug ins" back at our house... these guitars produce incredible tone qualities, play like a dream, and are aesthetically stunning.
Many players tried to compare our guitars to other guitars they play, then realized that there are no other existing guitars that have the total combination of features that a Peterson Signature Guitar has. We received many inquiries from players asking how they can "get their hands on" our guitars... this site is the first step in getting in touch with us to get your new instrument under way!
